UNTIL THE MOON COMES OVER THE MOUNTAIN at the Parrish brings together artists whose formal explorations are rooted in natural materials. Working with substances sourced from the earth—including minerals, fibre, and plant matter—they move beyond pictorial representations of landscape, using abstraction to examine personal and collective relationships to place. Through line, form, colour, and materiality, their works evoke memory, sensory experience, and the layered histories embedded within the land, offering meditations that extend beyond the visible terrain.

First presented at the FLAG Art Foundation, this two-part exhibition considers both material and conceptual approaches to engaging with landscape. While united by a shared curatorial framework, each presentation responds to its distinct context, exploring a range of formal, personal, and political concerns across the Foundation's Manhattan space and the Parrish's location on Long Island's East End. Together, the exhibitions invite viewers to reflect on the ways materials, environments, and lived experience shape our understanding of place.
