Honor Titus | Denim Tears from the Pool of Black Genius

SCAD Museum of Art
14 September 2026 – 11 January 2027

Honor Titus features in Pool of Black Genius, a retrospective of Tremaine Emory, founder of the Denim Tears label, which he describes as “African American sportswear”. Titus is one of the forty artists included in the exhibition, alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kara Walker, Arthur Jafa and Andy Warhol. The show surveys Emory’s creative output and collaborations, positioning fashion as a form of conceptual art that tells the story of the African Diaspora.

The exhibition brings together historical works from the SCAD Museum of Art Permanent Collection (Jacob Lawrence, Romare Bearden, Alma Thomas and Faith Ringgold) with contemporary pieces by Emory’s collaborators and artists in dialogue with his practice. Its aim is to transform historical references into cultural touchstones, challenge established hierarchies and encourage reflection on national history and heritage.
