Marina Adams in The Artist Columned Hall in Polling

STOA 169
9 April 2026
Marina Adams conceived a new painted column for STOA169 in Polling, Germany—an ongoing open-air project that brings together international artists within a monumental architectural framework. Initiated by German artist Bernd Zimmer, this architectural art space features over 121 unique pillars designed by contemporary artists from across the globe, all supporting a shared roof.

Located in the Pfaffenwinkel region near the village of Polling in Upper Bavaria, Germany, the hall sits in an open agricultural field near the River Ammer. It functions both as an evolving archive of modern art and as a symbol of international solidarity.

For her contribution, Adams draws inspiration from architecture, ceramics, and textiles, ranging from richly patterned Moroccan carpets to the ornate tiles of the Alhambra. Through her deliberate use of colour and form, she creates compositions that evoke rhythm, energy, and movement. In this context, her intervention extends her distinctive visual language into three dimensions, transforming painting into structure and surface into spatial experience.
