Riley weaves tapestries based on photographs and screenshots, many of which are drawn from self-portraits of the artist or images found online. Images of Riley's and other women's bodies recur in sexualized poses throughout her work, alluding to the unavoidable presence of the male gaze in our society. Riley's works show the everyday realities of contemporarary life caught on camera - tabs open on a computer screen, a bathroom selfie or the self-inflicted wounds on a woman's chest - revealing the lived experiences of a generation of women and the ways they intersect with life online.
