Lydia Pettit, 1991

Lydia Pettit (b. 1991) is a multisciplinary American artist and curator currently based in London, UK. After attaining a BFA in painting and photography at the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2014, Pettit ran Platform Gallery in Baltimore for three years. She graduated with an MA from Royal College of Art, London in 2020. Her works explores issues of trauma, identity, bodily acceptance, and self-knowledge. 

Solo exhibitions include The Well, Galerie Sebastien Bertrand, Geneva (2021); BIG SEXY, School 33, Baltimore (2018); Murmurs, Hotel Indigo, Baltimore (2017). Pettit has been included in group exhibitions such as London Grads Now, Saatchi Gallery, London (2020); 50/50, Fold Gallery, London (2020); Royal College of Art Show, Kristen Hjellegjerde Gallery, London (2020);  Tomorrow: London, White Cube, London (2020); Portraits & Some Standing Figures, Galerie Sebastien Bertrand, Geneva (2020); Bodies: Self & Sex, No. 20 Arts, London (2019); A RAW GARDEN, Pinch Projects, London (2019); Painters on the Other Side, Dyson Gallery, London (2019); and Deep Stretch, Field Projects, New York (2018). 
In 2020, Pettit was awarded the Jealous Prize. She has also been shortlisted for the Sunny Art Prize, the Signature Art Prize, the Neo:Artprize, the Young Contemporary Artist Award, and the Royal Society of British Artist’s Rome Fellowship. Pettit is also a two-time recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant.
